Text is sorted.

Description of the text sorting tool

This tool sorts text alphabetically, in ascending (↑) or descending (↓) order, by:

The tool can also perform the following "cleaning" and statistical operations on the text:

Ordering numbers at the beginning of each line can be added using various formats, such as:

If the sorted text is in CSV format, it can be saved to a .csv file on your local computer.

Explanations

How do we sort numbers and letters?

If the source text contains only numbers (disregarding spaces and newlines), the program will sort the numbers in the natural order in which numbers are normally sorted (eg. 1, 2, 3, 10, 11, 20, 21, 100, etc.).

However, if the source text also contains letters besides numbers, then the numbers will be treated as letters and the sorting will be done in lexical order (eg. 1, 10, 11, 100, 2, 20, 21, 3 etc.).

How to save sorted text in CSV format?

CSV format (Comma Separated Values) is a simple format for storing data in the form of a table, where each line represents one table row and the columns are separated by commas (,).

If the sorted text is in CSV format, you can save it to a CSV file on your local computer using the "Save to CSV file ⤓" button.

Such file can then be easily opened in Excel or another program for further editing.

How do we count the number of words in a text?

The number of words in the text (word count) is calculated by dividing the text by spaces and characters for marking the beginning of a new line (text breaks) and counting the number of thus obtained parts of the text (i.e. "words").

These do not have to be real words in the semantic (meaningful) sense, because in our case "word" means any part of the text separated by spaces or a new line. Thus, a number or special character separated by spaces, will be recognized as a word (eg. "123 * 456 %" will be counted as 4 words).

How do we calculate the length of the text?

Letters, punctuation marks, special characters, spaces, new line marks (text breaks) and in general, any type of characters are all taken into account when calculating the length of the text.

Paste button

In some older browser versions and in Firefox (Mozilla Firefox), the Paste button (Nalepi) does not work. Then paste the copied text as usual.
